Allow me to reintroduce myself.
I’ve been meaning to launch this site for a couple of months now. But the global pandemic put brakes to that. I honestly can’t tell you how or why. It just did. But recently, the protests erupting around the country and around the world after yet another murder of an unarmed black person kicked my ass and I couldn’t stay silent anymore. I needed to put my thoughts to paper and at least try to be part of the solution.
For those of you who know me, or more accurately, know my my writing from the first iteration of The Daily Math, you already know how I get down. For those of you who don’t, this is a rebirth of the blog site I started over 12 years ago with my brother, Combat Jack. Literally, my blood brother from another mother.
When we launched the OG site in ’08, we knew we wanted to take over the world or the internets but didn’t know how. Reggie, left a life of guaranteed income as a lawyer to pursue a dream to build something new and big for Hip Hop culture. He ended up cracking the code and becoming a pioneer in the podcast game and the rest is history. We talked about bringing back The Math in some form but before we were able to make that happen, cancer took his life. So, I’m taking the mantle and running with it.
A blog site in 2020 – what am I crazy? Probably. But I believe people still want insightful writing and analysis. Not just shade or quick takes for views and shits and giggles. But we’ll see how this all plays out.
So, welcome to the New Math. It won’t be the same as the Old Math. It simply can’t without the man who lit The Internets on fire. But we’ll do our best to honor Combat Jack and do so for the culture.
Special thanks to Theotis Jones, the incredible talent behind the Combat Jack Show’s graphic showbills, for putting the site’s banner together. He designed the header for the original Daily Math site and designed this one in fitting memory of Combat Jack and the city he loved and called home.
